Why buy second hand?
In today's world several people are pushed towards fast fashion wether its because of trends or its easily accessible and somewhat cheap for them to buy. The problem with this is that fast fashion relies on fast production and uses cheap materials to produce many pieces of merchandise as quick as possible and at a cheap price. Most of the merchandise are trendy and up to date with whats new which end up in the trash or forgotten after a couple wears until the next trend is set. All of which leads to excessive waste and just adds onto the clothes that end up in landfills.

The only similarity that I personally see between thrifting and fast fashion is that they are both affordable, but one is harmful for the environment and the other isn't. Apart from the positive environmental effect and how affordable thrifting is, I also wanted to include a reason why I personally thrift. Nowadays when I enter regular stores I see a repeat of several styles, most of which are either low quality or high quality and insanely expensive (for me at least). Why would I buy something from a normal store that's low quality when I could walk into a thrift store and find a surprisingly higher quality jacket or shirt for cheap while also helping the environment? At thrift stores, there is something there for everyone and their momma, you just have to put some time into searching for them.

I thrifted a huge box of bows for my puppy! This is her wearing one of the many bows.
My boyfriend wearing the shirt I thrifted for him.
In contrast to fast fashion, thrifting is a great way to positively impact both the environment and those who shop from thrift stores. By thrifting, not only are you giving a second chance to merchandise, you are also lowering the demand for new clothes which helps lower the consumption of resources in the textile industry. You're even keeping things from going straight to the landfill! I've seen many people buy clothes and even furniture from the thrift store and they proceed to up-cycle the items which also gives them another life and/or extends their life cycle.

My friend thrifting with me, you do not have to thrift alone! Bring a friend and a sweet treat!!
